Inside the studio
How a piece
comes to be
Four stages in one building on Johari Bazaar. Most designs go from sketch to counter in about five weeks.

Drawing
Every season starts on paper, at actual size. We sample one in brass and wear it for a fortnight before committing to a run.

Making
Cast in brass, then filed, linked and assembled by hand upstairs. Stones are seated individually rather than glued in bulk.

Plating
Three microns of gold-tone plating, then an anti-tarnish seal. Thin plating is why cheap jewellery turns your skin green — this is the step nobody should skip.

Checking
Every piece is checked for stone seating, clasp strength and finish. Anything that fails goes back, not into a discount bin.
About us
A name that
means devotion
Nishtha — निष्ठा — is the Sanskrit word for steadfast devotion. It started in 2014 as one stall in Johari Bazaar, run by two sisters tired of choosing between jewellery they could afford and jewellery they actually wanted to wear.
We make artificial jewellery, and we'd rather say so plainly than dress it up: brass, gold-tone plating, cubic zirconia and shell pearls. Nothing here is solid gold, and nothing here pretends to be an investment.
What we do take seriously is the finish — the plating thickness, the clasp, the way a stone is seated. That's the difference between a piece you wear for two years and one you throw away after a wedding.

What we will
put our name to
Every piece leaves with a card saying exactly what it is made of. Artificial jewellery has a reputation — we'd like to spend ours differently.
Anti-tarnish sealed
A protective coat over every plated surface. If a piece tarnishes within twelve months of normal wear, we replace it.
Stones set by hand
Cubic zirconia, glass and resin stones seated one at a time rather than glued in a tray. Set stones stay in.
Nickel-free
Skin-safe alloys throughout, so these can be worn by people who usually react to costume jewellery.

I bought the Meera for a friend's wedding and then wore it to work for a year straight. The plating still hasn't turned.
